MSU Vietnamese Student Association

About

Vietnamese Student Association

The Vietnamese Student Association (VSA) of Michigan State University (MSU) was officially founded in 1989. VSA provides Vietnamese themed educational, social, and cultural activities for MSU and the community. We also help our members develop leadership skills, support philanthropic efforts, and promote diversity. Anyone is welcome to join and check out any of our events.

VSA Structure

We are an official Registered Student Organization (RSO) of Michigan State University. Specifically, VSA is a member of the Asian Pacific American Student Organization (APASO). They act as the umbrella group to all the Asian Pacific American (APA) student groups. APASO is one of the four Coalition of Racial Ethnic Students (CORES) groups at MSU. The other three are North American Indigenous Student Organization (NAISO), Black Student Alliance (BSA), and Culturas de las Razas Unidas (CRU). All these cultural student groups are overseen by the Office of Cultural and Academic Transitions (OCAT).

MSU VSA is also a member of the Union of Vietnamese Student Associations of the Midwest (UVSA Midwest). This group includes many of the VSA’s in the Midwest United States. We try to work together to help each other out, attend each others events, and host events for all VSA’s including the VIA-1 Conference. We have worked with them in the past on a collective philanthropy project or CCP which usually benefits a charity in Vietnam.

Meetings

General Body meetings are every other week on Tuesday at 7pm in the Vincent Chin Room of the Holden Basement (G-13), unless otherwise noted. We also may have events which occur between meetings. These are posted on the website and emailed to registered members. The meetings and event locations are posted on this website and sent out with the emails.

The events are usually free and we have no dues. Everyone is of course welcome to come and you can bring your friends. You do not to have to be Vietnamese or Asian to come.
